So here are some questions you can ask yourself. If the answer is more “no” than “yes” you should probably think about new kitchen cabinets:

Kitchen Storage Systems

1. Do your cabinets feature time-saving accessories such as roll-out shelves, divided drawers and lazy susans?
2. Is there enough cabinet shelf space?
3. Do your cabinets have adjustable shelves for maximum storage?
4. Do your cabinets have melamine interiors for easy cleaning?
5. Is all the cabinet hardware in working condition (hinges open, drawers glide out, etc.)?
6. Do you have tall pantry storage in the kitchen?
7. Do you have a convenient storage area for small handheld appliances?
8. Is all of the available wall and floor space used for organized storage?
9. Is the cabinet door style and color up-to-date?
10. Is there a place to sort recyclables?

Countertops

1. Do you have enough counter space to cook and prep?
2. Is the counter space located where you need it?
3. Is the countertop material easy to keep clean?
4. Is the countertop material undamaged and in good shape?
5. Is the counter color pattern modern and up-to-date?

Kitchen Lighting

1. Do you have task lighting above the countertop?
2. Is there an attractive light fixture in the eating area? Over the sink?
3. Are the light switches located where you need them?
4. Do you have enough electrical outlets?
5. Is there a good ventilation system over the stove?

Kitchen Flooring

1. Is the flooring material easy to clean?
2. Is the wall covering easy to clean?

Appliances/Fixtures

1. Do you like the style of your sink? Is it in good condition?
2. Is the sink conveniently located?
3. Do you have a food waste disposer?
4. Do you have a dishwasher?
5. Do you have a microwave oven conveniently located?
6. Is your refrigerator/freezer large enough?
7. Is the refrigerator conveniently located?
8. Do all of the burners on your stove work?
9. Is the cooking surface easy to clean?
10. Are the oven and cooktop located where you want them?

Room Orientation

1. Does the kitchen relate to adjacent rooms the way you would like?
2. Is the view from the kitchen to the outside where you would like it to be?
3. Is there a casual dining/conversation area in the room?
4. Is the kitchen arranged so that ‘People Traffic’ is directed away from the cook’s activities?
